Description: Chrysarobin is a mixture of diferent antraquinone obtained from vegetal raw material and has a main constituent, the Chrysophanic acid. The product is presented as a powder of Brown to yellowish brown powder color; without taste its neverthless irritant to the eyes and mucous. Low solubility in water. One gram dissolves in 385ml of alcohol, 30ml of benzene, 15ml of chloroform and 160ml of ether. When dissolved in sulfuric acid it gives a red color an precipitates when the acid is diluted in water. It dissolves in alkaline hydroxides. The melting point of pure chryzarobyn is 203,4oC to 204,0oC.The dermatological usage of the product is an ointment used to cure psoriasis and ringworm, amont other skin diseases, but also is many other skin diseases of the tropical part of Southeast Asia.

Some formulae for the oitment can be found in the British Pharmacopea codex 49th Ed. and in the USP XV which recommends that the oitment should not cover large parts of the body at the same time and could be used in a more dissolved formula (adding more petrolatum jelly).
