PVP Sociedade Anônima invests part of its resources in activities and entities committed to enhancing the quality of life for local communities.

School for employees

PVP Sociedade Anônima, in association with Sesi, has set up a class room for its employees. This project is intended to provide its employees with means by which to improve their knowledge, thereby fostering development of human capital and making them citizens.

Presently there are only class groups up to the 4th grade level, but next year classes will be provided up to the 8th grade level.

Suzanne Jacob Child Care Center

PVP Sociedade Anônima is the main sponsor of this entity founded in 1938 by Roland Jacob in honor of his deceased wife. Winner of the ECO Award of the American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil in 1985, this entity provides daily assistance to about 250 needy children of Parnaiba.

Mission: To provide needy children with conditions to overcome life's adversities.
The PPSJ carries out its activities with a special focus on children between the ages of 0 and 7. It uses the daily distribution of Soy Milk and many other activities with a view to providing needy children with conditions to cope with life's adversities. Its goal is to assist 300 children by the end of 1999.


Child Welfare Activities

Daily distribution of 1 liter of soy milk to each child enrolled in the program.
Pediatric assistance, available for consultation once a week.
Dental assistance twice a year, when all children receive dental treatment and prevention.

Preventive activities:

Vaccination: control and vaccination of children enrolled in the program.
Prenatal care: pregnant women receive material and guidance for preparing their layette as well as health care.
Courses: sewing and cooking courses are available for mothers for efficient use of materials accessible to the needy population.

Entertainment Activities

Drama Course and Singing Lessons: open for enrolled children, regular classes.
Art Course: for children between the ages of 5 and 7, with the participation of local artists who receive financial support from PVP Sociedade Anônima in exchange for community work at PPSJ.
Weekly meetings: with recreational activities for children.

Infrastructure

A building with an area of 750 square meters, located at Praça Machado de Assis s/n, where milk production and distribution, dental treatment and medical appointments take place.

Activities carried out in association with other entities

São Sebastião Parish: activities in the Alto de Santa Maria neighborhood with registration and control of 80 children, milk distribution, construction of the headquarters used specifically for community services of the Parish, with space provided to PPSJ on a permanent basis.

Activities involving prisoners of Parnaíba

In association with APAC (Associação de Proteção e Assistência aos Condenados), PVP Sociedade Anônima employs prisoners, for up to 6 months, when they enter their last stage of reintegration into the society. It is also financially supporting the project for creation of the penitentiary vegetable garden for convicts to occupy their idle time with productive tasks and learn new activities.

Collaboration with the Roland Jacob School

Founded by the Jacob family and maintained by it up to the beginning of the 80s when it was transferred to the municipality, the Roland Jacob School is currently the largest public school in the city with 1,800 students and this number is expected to increase to 3,000 for the 2000 school year .

PVP Sociedade Anônima collaborates with this school by organizing contests, distributing awards, donating material, computers, making campaigns, etc.. For the end of this year, the priority will be to organize a library for students and set up a chemistry, physics and biology laboratory.
